LACONIA — Police say a baby girl born at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last month when her mother went into labor before she could reach the hospital has died.

Katie Anne Hebert was just three weeks old.

Laconia Police Capt. Matt Canfield said the child was pronounced dead early Monday at Lakes Region General Hospital, where she was taken by ambulance after she was found not breathing at home.

Canfield said police and emergency personnel responded to a call around 11:45 p.m. Sunday to the apartment where Katie lived with her mother. Resuscitation efforts in the ambulance and at the hospital were not successful, and the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“We are investigating as we would any untimely death, especially a child. However, we do not have reason to believe anything suspicious about it,” Canfield said.

Results showed nothing abnormal or suspicious, and the cause of death remained unclear, Canfield said. Toxicology tests were also performed and could take up to six to eight weeks to process.

The baby made headlines when she was born at the race track in Loudon on Sept. 14 as her parents were en route to Concord Hospital.
