A tragic ending to the search for UNH student Lizzi Marriott
DOVER — New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General James Vara said he does not expect any more information in the Lizzi Marriott murder case to be available ahead of a court hearing on Monday morning.
Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover, is scheduled to be arraigned in Dover District Court at 10:45 a.m. on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Marriott, a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student from Westborough, Mass.
Marriott was last seen in class on Tuesday night.
On Saturday afternoon, Vara announced the arrest of Mazzaglia, a 2006 UNH graduate, and said the search for Marriott's body continues. Marriott's tan Mazda Tribute was located Saturday in a university parking lot.
Peirce Island in Portsmouth was blocked off Friday night and most of the day on Saturday in a search police said was related to the investigation.
Vara said on Sunday that the island had been re-opened. He would not comment on whether a search in the area or elsewhere would continue today.
“What I can say is, we will be using all resources available to find her,” Vara said. “If searches continue to go on, we will not be discussing it, but we are doing everything possible to find (Marriott's) body and follow up with any information we obtain.”
Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said search teams were not looking for Lizzi Marriott's body in the waters off of Peirce Island on Sunday, but said the search for her has not been called off.
She said officials would have discussions about the "viability of future searches" on Monday
A frantic search for Marriott began after the marine biology student disappeared, with friends and family canvassing the area and hanging brightly colored posters asking for information about her disappearance.
A moment of silence was held ahead of Saturday night's UNH men's hockey game to honor Marriott, while a candlelight vigil was held in her hometown of Westborough.
