Winnacunnet high football coach suspened

Winnacunnet of Hampton football coach Ron Auffant was suspended for Friday night's 20-7 loss at Keene for violating the NHIAA's media policy.

Auffant made the following comments in Friday's Portsmouth Herald: “You go over there, you're playing against a lot of factors,” said Auffant. “It's a long trip. A lot of times officiating doesn't go your way. We've just got to get off the bus and play four quarters.”

In the NHIAA Handbook By-Law Article IX, sect. 3 states: (Coaches and school officials) Will not permit anyone under their supervision to criticize athletic contest officials.

“It was just a general statement, but it was still a violation,” Auffant said Saturday night. “I take full responsibility. I feel like I let my team down.”

It was Winnacunnet's first loss of the season. The Warriors (6-1 overall, 5-1 in Division II) entered the weekend ranked No. 1 in the Union Leader/WGIR/WMUR Power Poll.
