Despite loss, UNH women’s soccer team earns playoff berth
The University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team clinched a spot in the America East tournament despite its 2-1 road loss against the University of Maine on Sunday.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-9-2 overall and 3-2-1 in America East play. Kirstyn Corder notched New Hampshire’s only goal in the game in the 21st minute.
Colby-Sawyer 1, Johnson State 0 (2OT): In New London, Tallon Tomasi broke a streak of 323 consecutive scoreless minutes between Colby-Sawyer and Johnson State dating back to last season.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-2-3 overall, marking the seventh time in school history that the program has reached double-figure wins.
NHTI of Concord 3, Dean College 0: Carissa Peletier had 13 saves as the Lynx improve to 5-5-3.
Men’s soccer
Albany 3, UNH 1: In Durham, the Wildcats fell to 5-4-3 and 1-2-1 in America East play. Ugo Uche of UNH scored in the 73rd minute while Robert Palumbo of Kingston assisted on the play.
W. Conn. State 1, Plymouth State 0 (OT): In Danbury, freshman Phil Dagostino scored the game-winning goal 3:05 into overtime. The Panthers fall to 5-9 overall.
Dean College 3, NHTI of Concord 1: In Concord, scoring the lone goal for the Lynx was Chris Pacanza of Swanzey. It was assisted by Jimmy Wesseh of Concord. NHTI falls to 12-1.
Colby-Sawyer 2, Johnson State 1: In New London, the Chargers improve to 5-8-2 overall. Sophomore Chris DiCecca scored his team leading fourth season goal in the 19th minute for CSC.
Colby-Sawyer increased its lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute when Cooper McNealus collected a deflection from a Johnson defender and ripped a shot into the left corner of the net from 10 yards out. It was McNealus’ first season goal.
Field hockey
Boston College 6, UNH 2: In Boston, Mass., UNH fell to 7-7, getting goals from Megan Bozek and Meg Carroll. Casey Pohlmeyer had two assists in the loss.
UMaine-Farmington 4, Colby-Sawyer 0: In New London, Colby-Sawyer dipped to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer keeper Jodi Dumayne of Claremont stopped 12 shots in the loss.
Cross country
NHTI of Concord: The NHTI men’s and women’s cross county teams hosted the Lynx Cross Country Relay and both placed first overall. Placing for the men were Ignacio Hernando of Manchester (runner-up, 28:48) Tyler Harding of Walpole (3rd 28:57), Matthew Argiro of Derry (sixth, 30:26), Brian Fox of Madison (seventh, 30:57), and Mark Richardson of Wolfeboro was eighth at 31:31.
On the women’s side, Isha Garcia of Candia won in 26:26 while teammates Liz Anderson of Henniker (28:12 and Cassie Graham (28:19) finished second and third. Allison Craigue of Claremont was fifth overall at 30:26.
