PORTSMOUTH - Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said Tuesday the N.H. Marine Patrol has four boats out on the water today looking for the body of 19-year-old UNH student Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott.
Young said they are also using a canine on the water to try and find Marriott's body.
On Monday, Young said they had “credible information” that led them to the area of the outlook on Peirce Island in Portsmouth. Police closed down the island on Friday evening and searched through late Saturday afternoon. Marine patrol was also out searching the waters around the island on Monday using side-scan sonar and an underwater camera.
Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of 1 Mill St., Apt. 341, Dover, was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder Monday alleging that he strangled and/or suffocated Marriott in his apartment on Tuesday, Oct. 9. That was the last day anyone heard from Marriott.
She had texted a friend to say she was headed to visit another friend on Mill Street in Dover around 9 p.m. Friends and family have said that friend is associated with Mazzaglia. Young confirmed that Mazzaglia and Marriott were known to each other but would not elaborate.
On Monday, UNH officials announced that plans are under way for a service on campus in Marriott's memory. Details will be announced at www.unh.edu as they become available.

DOVER — The search for 19-year-old Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott's body near Peirce Island in Portsmouth could take days, according to Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young.
News of the continuing search for the University of New Hampshire sophomore's body came on the same day the man charged in her death was arraigned for second-degree murder.
Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of 1 Mill St., Apt. 341, in Dover is being held without bail after the brief hearing in Dover District Court Monday morning.
Mazzaglia appeared via video-feed from the Strafford County House of Corrections, flanked by two public defenders. Mazzaglia said two words during the hearing, replying “yes, sir” to Judge Stephen Morrison when asked his name.
The state's complaint alleges Mazzaglia recklessly caused the death of Marriott by strangling and/or suffocating her on Oct. 9, the night she was last seen. She had sent a text message saying she was headed to a female friend's apartment in Dover.
During a news conference, Young said police believe Marriott was killed in Mazzaglia's apartment that night.
Family and friends said Mazzaglia is connected to Marriott's friend in Dover whom she was supposed to visit Tuesday night, according to family and friends. Marriott began working at Target in the summer, which is where she met the friend. That friend recently quit her job at Target.
Young would not comment on whether other arrests are expected in the case.
The search for Marriott's body has focused on Peirce Island in Portsmouth, where a New Hampshire Marine Patrol boat was using side scan sonar and an underwater camera Monday.
Young said authorities have “credible information” gained through the investigation that led them to Peirce Island, but would not comment further.
She said the search of the area could take “several days” and if Marriott's body is not located, the search could be expanded. Cadaver dogs may join the effort and authorities have notified Massachusetts and Maine about the search.
Marriott's car was located in a UNH parking lot Friday, Young said.
Mazzaglia is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 29 for a probable cause hearing.
Marriott is from Westborough, Mass., and had been living with family members in Chester for just over a year while attending Manchester Community College. She transferred to UNH this semester and was studying marine biology.
Mazzaglia, described by those who knew him as a man with an “odd” and “quirky” side, is a 2006 UNH graduate who knew Marriott, authorities said.
Residents at the Sawyer Mill apartment complex where Mazzaglia lived said police went through two different Dumpsters on the property between Friday night and Saturday and were also knocking on doors looking for any relevant information from residents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department.
