Dover principal in contention for national educator award
DOVER — Woodman Park School Principal Patrick Boodey is in the running for top elementary school principal in the nation.
Boodey, 41, who has served as principal at Woodman Park for seven years, is in Washington, D.C., today with his wife, Shannan, to attend the National Meeting of Principals of the Year.
“This is beyond expectations,” said Boodey of the celebration that began when he was named the state’s top elementary school principal by the New Hampshire Association of School Principals (NHASP) last February.
Boodey, of Barrington, said he was amazed how much pride the award brought to his family, his students, their parents and fellow educators.
“I had no idea how this award would impact other people,” Boodey said, adding he’s very proud of the accomplishments of everyone at Woodman Park School.
“It’s not just an award for one person,” Boodey said.
Before his time at Woodman, Boodey worked in a variety of positions — including special education paraprofessional, teacher and eventually freshman dean — at Dover High School over a period of 12 years.
“I did almost every job,” Boodey said. He said he was fortunate to be chosen as principal at Woodman, which has proven a tremendous experience.
Boodey said he’s excited to meet fellow educators and shar new techniques with some of the top educators in the country in hopes of borrowing innovative ideas to bring back to Dover.
He anticipates that his wife, who enjoys history, will take in some of the impressive monuments and museums around Washington while he attends the conference during the day. They’ll also get to spend some time together during a reception at the National Archives and at other events in the evening during the next few days.
Boodey said he has enjoyed the past year immensely and will soon help fellow members of NHASP select the next top principals and assistant principals in the state.
