Condo resident takes parking woes to Londonderry traffic safety board

LONDONDERRY — A shortage of public parking combined with recent reinforcement of the town’s parking ordinance means residents at the Kendallwood condo complex can no longer have their visitors park on site.

Condo resident Tom Duffett, who voiced his concerns to the town’s Traffic Safety Committee earlier this month, implored the town council to consider the neighborhood’s plight during Monday night’s meeting.

Duffett noted that the town had recently erected several dozen “No Parking” signs along Boulder Drive and Sandstone Circle and his neighbors have been subject to tickets and towing in recent months.

In January, Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie confirmed that the department had received a request to add a fire lane along Sandstone Circle, with Public Works Director Janusz Czyzowski confirming the development’s streets were public roads that are maintained by the town and subject to municipal rules.

By April, Duffett said property management began calling the local police department to report vehicles parked on the streets and he believes residents are generally being “harassed” about the situation.

Council Chairman John Farrell, who limited his participation in the discussion as his wife owns property in Kendallwood, noted the town has little jurisdiction over condo associations and management companies in general though admitted that until recently, residents and their guests parked on the streets with little interference.

Kendallwood was built in the 1970s, which predates the town’s modern site plan and parking requirements.

The Traffic Safety Committee meets again on Jan. 14.
