Brooke Marshall buried a rebound goal in the first half, and the marker stood as fourth-seeded Bow bumped No. 5 Merrimack Valley of Penacook from the Division II field hockey tournament with a 1-0 quarterfinal win on Saturday.
The host Falcons improved to 12-3. They'll face top-seeded Lebanon in Wednesday's second semifinal (7 p.m.) at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter. The Raiders ousted No. 8 Kennett of Conway, 4-2.
Marshall's goal was set up by a penalty corner, one of Bow's four in the first half and 12 on the match. The Falcons finished with a decisive 12-2 advantage.
“There were four or five attempts before (Marshall's goal),” Bow coach Lyndsey Cook said. “She picked it up on her reverse stick and lifted it into the cage about waste-high around the goalkeeper.”
The Pride (10-5-1) played well on defense and often prevented the Falcons from firing quick shots. Goalie Kerry Sedion made five saves in the setback.
Sedion's counterpart, Amy Zahensky (three saves) thwarted MV's crunch-time chance to knot the match. Bow's goalie denied a game-tying goal with 6 minutes left in regulation.
“She stepped up to the shot rather than waiting for the defender to recover,” Cook said. “She cleared it out.”
St. Thomas 3, Hollis/Brookline 0: At Dover, Gabby Dodier scored nearly 10 minutes into Saturday's Division II quarterfinal, which lifted the No. 2 Saints (13-2) into Wednesday's 5 p.m. semifinal at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter. They'll face No. 3 Windham.
Jensen Palmer added a pair of unassisted goals, one in each half, to give the Saints insurance. Helen Schoening was only forced to make two saves, as the No. 10 Cavaliers (7-7-2) struggled to generate scoring opportunities on offense.
The Saints finished plus-4 (5-1) in penalty corners. H/B goalies Rachel Dunn and Ashley Skey combined to make eight saves.
“They're a very physical team,” H/B coach Tim Glover said of the Saints. “The field conditions were horrific. There was standing water. It was muddy. It is what it is.”
Windham 2, Souhegan 1: At Windham, Courtney Sweeney scored the equalizer 31 seconds into the second half and later snapped the tie on a feed from Justine Levesque. The No. 3 Jaguars improved to 12-2-1. Goalie Morgan Chamberlain made 14 saves for the sixth-seeded Sabers (10-6).
Lebanon 4, Kennett 2: At Lebanon, Shauna Rankin-Byrne scored two goals, and Taylor Friedman added a goal and assist to pace the Raiders (13-1-1). Emily Foster made four saves in the win. Vonde Saunders and Emily Watson scored for the No. 8 Eagles (8-7-1).
