Truck rollover investigated by Rochester police
ROCHESTER - A Middleton man reported he crashed his pickup truck on Chestnut Hill Road, more than nine hours after the accident, police said.
The accident was reported by a resident who about 3 a.m. Sunday heard a vehicle drive by at a high rate of speed and then heard a loud crash, according to a police press release.
Arriving officers found a gray GMC 2500 pickup truck on its roof. The front end was in a culvert and its rear was sticking out into the road. No one was in it.
A police dog led police to the Rochester/Farmington line on Chestnut Hill Road, but the driver was not found.
About 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Joseph Melanson, 22, of Middleton, the registered owner of the GMC, reported the accident. He told police he swerved to avoid a deer, overcorrected and rolled the truck when he drove into the culvert. He was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries to his face.
The crash remains under investigation.
