It's Salem-Winnacunnet, Exeter-Pinkerton in NHIAA field hockey semis

Top-ranked Pinkerton Academy of Derry, two-time defending state champion Winnacunnet of Hampton, Salem and Exeter have advanced to the semifinals of the Division I NHIAA field hockey Tournament.

On Sunday, the Astros defeated eighth-ranked Bishop Guertin of Nashua, 4-0, the Warriors beat seventh-rated Londonderry 2-1, the sixth-seeded Blue Devils blanked third-ranked Timberlane of Plaistow 1-0 and fifth-ranked Exeter upended fourth-ranked Merrimack, 2-1.

On Thursday at Exeter High in the semifinals, Salem will meet Winnacunnet at 5 p.m. while Exeter will battle Pinkerton in the 7 p.m. game.

Salem 1, Timberlane 0: In Plaistow, red-hot Salem avenged a 1-0 regular season loss to the Owls. Salem is now 8-1-2 in its last 11 games, allowing just four goals. Kerry Field started the winning play, feeding teammate Mikaela Gauvain for a shot on net. The rebound was kicked out to Salem's Abbey Raymond, who found Rachel Denning on the far post side for the lone goal at the 53:27 mark. Brianna Rastello had 11 saves for 10-4-2 Salem while Molly Dufresne stopped nine shots for 11-3-1 Timberlane.

Pinkerton 4, Bishop Guertin 0: In Derry, Kaylie DeCosmo scored two goals and Julie Saltamartini added one goal and two assists. Brooke Dorval also scored for the 12-1-2 Astros. Pinkerton goalie Jordan Dudley turned back one shot while BG keeper Elizabeth DiCesare had five saves.

Winnacunnet 2, Londonderry 1: In Hampton, the two-time state champion Warriors earned their third straight trip to the semifinals behind two goals in a span of three minutes and 11 seconds in the first half. Mimi MacLeod scored the first goal with 19:01 remaining in the first half. Londonderry tied it behind a goal from Liz Caron. But the tie lasted 17 seconds as Grace Primavera scored the eventual game-winner. Taylor Blood had two assists for the 13-2 Warriors. Winning goalie Haley Morancy stopped two shots while Samantha Harris turned back seven shots in net for the 10-6 Lancers.

Exeter 2, Merrimack 1: In Merrimack, Kelly Moran opened the scoring in the 28th minute and assisted on Lexi Grott's eventual game-winning goal four minutes later. Ashley Grassini tallied for Merrimack in the 45th minute. Exeter (12-2-2) returns to the semifinals for the first time since 2009. Merrimack closed at 10-2-3.

Boys' soccer

Winnacunnet 1, Londonderry 0:
In Londonderry Sunday, Bryan Schwechhiemer tallied an unassisted goal in the 17th minute. Winnacunnet goalie Mark Caunter made it stand with 14 saves as the Warriors improved to 11-4-1. Londonderry fell to 14-2.

Girls' soccer

Londonderry 2, Bishop Guertin 1:
In Londonderry Sunday, Emily Crocetti had two points as she assisted on Aliza Simpson's first-half goal and then scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 47th minute. Mikayla Elliott scored for 8-7-1 BG while the Lancers improved to 14-2.

Football

Windham 42, Kingswood 6:
In Wolfeboro, a suspended Division IV game stopped Friday because of lightning resulted into a lopsided win for the 7-1 Jaguars against 0-8 Kingswood. Windham will play Trinity (7-1) in Manchester Friday for second place and a first-round home playoff game. Windham and Trinity will face each other again in two weeks in the semifinal round of the state tournament.
