Mass. man's heroin plea could mean time served

BUSA

BRENTWOOD — A Canton, Mass., man found in a Salem motel with hoards of stolen electronics from residential burglaries in Massachusetts may be sentenced to up to 12 months in jail on a felony drug charge.

Andrew Busa, 22, has agreed to plead guilty to charges he possessed heroin when Salem police apprehended him last Aug. 11.

Busa struck a deal with prosecutors just before he was set to go on trial in Rockingham County Superior Court.

He is expected to make his plea on Nov. 26.

If a judge accepts the deal, Busa will essentially receive a time-served sentence and remain on probation for one year, according to terms of the deal.

Busa was indicted last November on a single count of possession of a controlled drug.

Following his arrest, he was extradited back to Massachusetts on a fugitive from justice charge.

Sharon, Mass., police had obtained arrest warrants for Busa and Hannah Boraks, 22, of Sharon, Mass., for a series of burglaries in their town.

Salem police began searching local hotels for the couple using a tip from Sharon police, and found their vehicle in the La Quinta Inn & Suite’s parking lot on Keewaydin Drive.

Busa and Boraks were arrested as they were approaching the vehicle, police said.

Boraks was also charged with burglarizing a home in Salem.

Police executed a search warrant on the car and the hotel room, where much of the stolen merchandise was found, according to police.

Police recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen items, including jewelry, watches, iPods and cameras. It would take some time to track down the owners to all of the stolen merchandise, police said.

The couple also had cash and prescription medication in the room along with heroin and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
