Official says three-alarm fire in New Boston not suspicious
NEW DURHAM — Although investigators have not determined what started a three-alarm fire Oct. 17, they do not believe it was suspicious, according to State Fire Investigator Tom Riley.
Riley, who works for the state Fire Marshal’s Office, responded to the scene at 50 Main St. hours after firefighters from ten communities extinguished the early morning blaze, which was reported at 2 a.m. and under control by 4 a.m.
“The fire … is an undetermined cause and at this time I have no reason to be concerned about the cause of the fire or the owner,” Riley said in an email.
The fire destroyed the home which previously served as a service station and convenience store, but caused no injuries to the resident, his dog or firefighters, Fire Chief Peter Varney previously said.
Local crews were assisted by firefighters from Alton, Barnstead, Farmington, Gilmanton, Middleton, Milton, Rochester, Wakefield and Wolfeboro. Barrington firefighters responded to provide station coverage during the incident.
