Candia runaway Amanda Julian found after nearly a month
CANDIA - After having been missing for almost a month, 16-year-old Amanda Julian was found alive and in good health Saturday, October 27.
Barrington police found Julian at a residence in Barrington, 20 miles Northeast of Candia, at approximately 4:30 p.m. A Candia officer picked her up at the town station soon afterwards.
Candia police could not discuss the details of where she was found and what she was doing there at this time, nor could they name the individual she was staying with.
"We were getting different information from everywhere, people keep calling us, giving us phone numbers and names, family members saw something on the web…and we narrowed it down," said Police Chief Mike McGillen. "We developed a person of interest, and we decided to have Barrington Police check on it, and they found her."
McGillen did wish to express his gratitude for the efforts of community members during the search. “We had a lot of nice people calling in,” he said. “They were very helpful. I thank all the people who called in with tips and concerns.”
The teen’s parents, Maureen and Richard Julian, released a statement on their daughter’s return Monday afternoon through a spokesperson.
"We are thrilled that our daughter, Amanda, has been found and is safe. We cannot thank the community enough for all of the support and prayers that helped bring her home to us," the statement reads. "All we wanted was for Amanda to come home safe, and our prayers have been answered. Thank you to the Candia Police Department and to all who assisted us in our search. We are forever grateful."
Julian ran away from her Candia home on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 2. She had last been seen getting into a car with an unknown male at approximately 9:15 pm. Candia Police followed leads for weeks in coordination with the Manchester Police Department, believing her at the time to be in the Manchester area.
The family also ran a campaign to locate Julian throughout the month, utilizing social media outlets, newspapers, and flyers hung throughout in surrounding towns.
