Mancheser Crimewatch: Man says he does not remember attacking pregnant woman
MANCHESTER - A city man Wednesday denied pushing a pregnant woman so hard that she bounced off a car and landed on the ground and had to be taken to a hospital.
Wayne Webber, 39, of 128 Mammoth Road, said to Circuit Court-Manchester District Division Judge William Lyons: "I was just falling over."
But police prosecutor Carissa Pelletier said the first event at Victory Park on Monday was an unprovoked attack on a man and a woman. Later, Pelletier said, Webber pushed the woman, who is seven months pregnant, shouted obscenities at her and threatened: "I don't care if she's pregnant, I'll smash her."
Pelletier said Webber also resisted arrest.
Webber said in court that he was drunk at the time and doesn't remember what happened.
The prosecutor said Webber's criminal history includes stalking, violation of probation/parole and assault. She requested bail of $10,000 cash/surety.
Webber objected to that too, saying: "I can't come up with that." Webber said he receives social security disability and has to wait for his November check. He wanted personal recognizance, but Lyons said Webber's criminal record rules that out.
He set bail at $10,000 cash/surety, with conditions barring contact with either victim, although Webber said he doesn't know one of the named victims.
A probable cause hearing on the second-degree assault charge, based on the alleged assault of the pregnant woman, was set for Nov. 15.
Trial on the misdemeanors of simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal threatening and resisting arrest was set for Jan. 3, 2013.
Accused of violating order
Jerramy Jones, 22, who lists the homeless shelter as his address, pleaded innocent Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to violation of a domestic violence protective order.
Jones allegedly violated the court order barring contact with a woman by going to her residence and arguing with her.
Bail was set at $5,000 cash/surety, with conditions barring contact with the woman and barring him from a Beech Street address.
Trial was set for Jan. 7, 2013.
Two stalking charges
A bail revocation hearing is set for this morning in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division for Juan Rivera Ortiz, 29, of 421 Manchester St.
A probable cause hearing is set for Nov. 15 for Rivera on two felony stalking charges that allege he went to a driveway and spoke to a woman in a car, twice, in violation of bail conditions.
