HS football Power Poll: Exeter a unanimous No. 1
Despite second-ranked Pinkerton Academy of Derry's 40-20 pounding of previously No. 5 Nashua South in its regular-season finale Friday night, Exeter not only retained its No. 1 ranking in the New Hampshire Union Leader/WGIR/WMUR Power Poll but became a unanimous selection of eight voters from the statewide media outlets.
Previously No. 1 Winnacunnet of Hampton, meanwhile, used a 28-14 victory over perennial Division II power Bishop Guertin of Nashua to climb from fourth to third.
All of the top three teams are 9-1. Bedford (8-1), which had been No. 3, dropped to fourth despite a 33-8 rout of Merrimack.
Any further fluctuations in the poll will be the result of playoff outcomes, with the Divisions I, II and II tournaments opening this Saturday and the Divisions IV, V and VI playoffs concluding with their championships the same day.
The final poll will be announced on Monday, Nov. 22, during WGIR-FM's "The Morning Buzz" 7:30 a.m. sports report and later that morning at UnionLeader.com.
