Police: Ankle monitor didn't stop Wolfeboro woman in new burglary case
OSSIPEE - A Wolfeboro woman was being held on $100,000 bail at the Carroll County jail after being accused of committing new crimes while still attached to the jail's electronic monitoring anklet during an earlier pretrial release.
The suspect, Carrie Bunnell, 28, is charged with thefts and burglaries in Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro. Bunnell was charged with a theft in Tuftonboro in April, and in May was charged with stealing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from an employer. Subsequently, she was held on $5,000 cash or $25,000 surety bond and left the jail under a pretrial release program that required her wearing an electronic monitoring anklet.
But according to court documents and a report prepared by Tuftonboro Sgt. James Hathcock, Bunnell was tracked through the GPS device on the anklet to the scene of a burglary in that town.
Bunnell was rearrested on Oct. 5 on the new charges.
According to court documents, some of the jewelry that Bunnell had allegedly stolen from the elderly victims under her care in Center Tuftonboro was recovered at a Wolfeboro jewelry store.
She is also charged with the felony theft of $1,000 in tools from her father in Wolfeboro, and a felony theft involving jewelry stolen in Wolfeboro valued at more than $1,500.
Under the current high bail, Bunnell can file a motion to request a change to personal recognizance bail if she enters a residential treatment program. The nature of her substance abuse issue was not immediately known.
Tuftonboro Police Chief Andy Shagoury said it was likely evidence of another burglary would be presented during the December sitting of a Carroll County grand jury.
