Candia on track to reach 90% turnout

CANDIA - With over two thirds of the town's registered voters having passed ballots before 5:00 pm, Candia is on track to reach 90% voter turnout, a feat town election officials have called 'phenomenal.'

As of approximately 4:30 pm, 2068 of approximately 2800 registered voters in Candia had already voted, and as Town Moderator Clark Thyng noted, the after work hours were still to come.

'This is on pace to exceed 2008,' said Thyng. 'If the pace keeps close to what it is, we should be close to a 90% turnout.'

According to Clark, the 100th vote in the town was passed at 6:27 am, less than half an hour after the polls opened at the Henry W. Moore School.

'That's phenomenal,' said Thyng. 'It's gone exceptionally today. We've had a very strong turnout, very smooth, very little objection to the new voter ID requirements, so we're really happy.'

According to Thyng, there have been no refusals in Candia to comply with the state's new voter ID law.
