Police scramble to cope with traffic in Hampton poll

HAMPTON - Two police officers directed traffic into the Marston School as voters overwhelmed the polls on Tuesday afternoon.

Streams of cars entered the school parking lot consistently throughout the day before running the gauntlet of campaigners into the polls.

As of 3 p.m. a nearly half of the town's approximately 11,400 voters had already turned out with the evening rush just beginning to get underway.

Town Clerk Jane Marzinzik said overall things were going smoothly, even with the new voter identification law.

“We have had a couple of people give our ballot clerks a hard time, but that is to be expected,” Marzinzik said.

She said most people who requested challenge affidavits had simply forgotten to bring their identification with them.
