Broken water main presents a challenge in Hudson

HUDSON - By mid-afternoon Tuesday, roughly a quarter of Hudson's 6,110 registered voters had passed through the polls at the Hudson Community Center.

The day got off to a challenging start with a broken water main forcing public works crews to close down a section of Lions Avenue stretching from the Community Center to Hurley Street early Monday night as they worked through the nighttime hours to repair the damage before the polls opened at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to Town Clerk Patti Barry, 1,406 residents had voted as of 2 p.m.

Barry said such turnout was typical of a presidential election.

Few residents challenged the voter ID laws, she noted, adding, 'Most people are quite open to it.'
