NASHUA - More than 2,000 ballots had been cast in Nashua's Ward 5 polling site at Main Dunstable Elementary School by mid-morning, according to Moderator Patricia Allan.

“I expected this,” she said, adding it has been a busy, but smooth morning.

The line of voters extended outside the gymnasium and down a long hallway to the front door where poll workers were directing residents to their appropriate lines.

Seven voter affidavits were signed by residents who opted not to show their identification by about 11 a.m., said Allan, adding she was pleased that residents were cooperating and having their identification cards ready in advance.

Jim Luther, who is running for the New Hampshire state senate in District 12, was outside campaigning Tuesday.

“I have a good sense that I am going to win,” Luther said optimistically. “The feedback that I received while knocking on doors has been good.”

Luther said he is excited about the massive voter turnout in Nashua, which he described as a positive sign for the city.
