SALEM - Traffic was heavy outside the Ingram Senior Center Tuesday morning, where parked vehicles lined Sally Sweets Way all the way to Geremonty Drive.

Activities at the senior center were placed on hold Tuesday to make room for the heavy voter turnout. The center is one of Salem's four polling spots.

A line of voters braved the chilly autumn air as they waited outside the senior center to cast their ballots, with a line of people snaking down the front door's ramps, circling around the parking lot.

Local state representative candidate Joe Sweeney stood in the parking lot holding his campaign sign, along with his mother, Barbara Sweeney.

Mother and son donned their winter hats and gloves.

“It's been cold so every now and then, I go sit in my car and turn the heat on,” Barbara Sweeney said.
