SNHU teams in NCAA tournaments this weekend

The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team, ranked 15th in the nation, received some good news on Monday. The Penmen earned a bid to the NCAA Division II men's soccer tournament and received a first-round bye in East Regional games played at SNHU's Larkin Field this weekend.

The tourney begins on Friday with No. 3 Merrimack College (14-3-2) facing No. 6 seed Franklin Pierce University (11-5-2) at 6 p.m. The No. 2 Penmen (17-3) will face the winner of that contest Sunday at 3 p.m. Southern New Hampshire, which captured its fourth Northeast-10 tournament championship on Sunday, earned its 18th overall appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament.

Ticket prices for each game are $6 for adults and $2 for students with ID, seniors and children 12 and under. Children ages 2 and under are free. SNHU students with valid ID will be admitted free on Sunday, courtesy of the SNHU Student Government Association.

Women's soccer

Southern New Hampshire earned the No. 5 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship and also hosts first- and second-round games this weekend. The Penmen (13-5-3) host No. 4 Dowling College (13-3-2) on Friday at 3 p.m. at Larkin Field. The winner advances to face No. 1 LIU-Post (15-2-2) on Sunday at noon. The Penmen earned an automatic berth into the field of 48 by capturing the program's first Northeast-10 tournament championship on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Adelphi University. SNHU is making its third all-time NCAA appearance.

Polls

The University of New Hampshire football team, which took care of business at home with a 28-25 triumph against William & Mary on Saturday, gained one spot in the national polls and moved to 10th on Monday. The Wildcats (8-2 overall) are ranked No. 10 in both The Sports Network FCS Top 25 and the FCS Coaches Poll. UNH has won 10 straight at Cowell Stadium.

The UNH men's hockey team (5-1-1), ranked ninth in the country, didn't gain any ground in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll this week. Boston College remains atop the poll, which consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country.
