Tight senate race in District 12
With all but two communities in the district reporting by midnight, Gilmour had obtained 13,917 votes compared to Luther's 12,071. Those results, however, were not official since Greenville and New Ipswich had not yet reported their election results.
In Nashua, Gilmour collected 8,355 votes, while Luther received 6,218. District 12 consists of more than just Wards 1, 2 and 5 in Nashua, however, as it also consists of Brookline, Hollis, Mason, Greenville, New Ipswich and Rindge.
Two years ago when Luther and Gilmour squared off for the same seat, Luther defeated his opponent by about 1,000 votes.
'Good support at the polls,' Gilmour tweeted from Nashua's Ward 2 polling site at Charlotte Avenue Elementary School, posting a photo of several Gilmour supporters holding campaign signs on Tuesday morning.
Gilmour, 70, served one term in the Senate and owns CompassWise Consulting. She is the former president and CEO of Home Health and Hospice Care, Nashua.
Gilmour recently received an endorsement by the Nashua Teachers Union, among other individuals and organizations.
'Now, more than ever, we need leadership in Concord that will come together, cross party lines and work to solve the problems facing our families and small businesses,' she states on her website.
Luther was spotted campaigning outside of Main Dunstable Elementary School in Nashua's Ward 5 on Tuesday morning, where he was feeling confident and optimistic.
'I have a good sense that I am going to win,' Luther said before noon yesterday. 'The feedback that I received while knocking on doors has been good.'
Luther said he is excited about the massive voter turnout in Nashua, which he described as a positive sign for the city.
'The line was out the door in Ward 1,' said Luther, who had planned to stop at many of the city's polling sites throughout Election Day.
Luther, 57, is a self-employed investment and money manager who also serves as a part-time pastor at the Grace Fellowship Church of Nashua.
Luther planned on gathering at the Napa East Wine Lounge Tuesday night to wait for the election results to pour in, hoping it would be a victory celebration once again.
In Hollis, Gilmour collected 2,531 votes while Luther collected 2,359. In Brookline, Gilmour gathered 1,362, and Luther gathered 1,405. In Mason, Gilmour received 344 compared to Luther's 453, and in Rindge, Gilmour collected 1,325 compared to Luther's 1,636...
