Woman saved by paramedics will attend ceremony
MANCHESTER - A Manchester woman who is alive because of the actions of her son, AMR paramedics and a Manchester Fire Department engine company crew responded when she suffered cardiac arrest will attend a ceremony honoring her life savers at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Manchester Fire Department Central Station, 100 Merrimack St.
Cynthia Pratte, 52, suffered cardiac arrest at her home Feb. 27 and her son, Matthew, called 911 and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
When paramedics from AMR Ambulance and the crew of MFD Engine 9 arrived, Pratte was treated at the scene with advance cardiac life support procedures by the AMR medics and transported to the Elliot Hospital.
Treatment there, including implantation of a pacemaker, enabled Pratte to return home after a stay in the ICU.
Those being honored are AMR paramedic Ryan Fedel, AMR EMT-Intermediate Jason Rapsis, Manchester Fire Lt. Kevin Healey, Firefighters Brennan Pingree and Raymond Seddon, and Pratte's son, Matthew.
The American Heart Association says fewer than eight percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital survive.
