NH College Football Roundup: Dartmouth, St. Anselm lose

Dartmouth College (5-4, 3-3) was eliminated from contention for the Ivy League football title after blowing a 10-point fourth quarter lead to visiting Brown University (6-3, 3-3) on Saturday. Brown scored a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter to top the Big Green, 28-24, at Memorial Field in Hanover.

Brown quarterback Patrick Donnelly rushed for a three-yard score with 6:39 left to start the comeback and he completed it when he hit Jonah Fay with an 18-yard touchdown pass with 1:14 left.

Dartmouth went up 24-14 when receiver Michael Reilly caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Dalyn Williams with nine seconds left in the third quarter, completing a 10-play, 88-yard drive.

Down 7-0 after an 11-yard scoring hookup from Donnelly to Andrew Marks in the first quarter, the Big Green scored 17 unanswered points in the second frame.

Riley Lyons kicked a 23-yard field goal to make it 7-3 and Dominick Pierre followed with a pair of rushing touchdowns to put the Big Green up 17-7.

Pierre finished with 28 carries for 136 yards. Williams went 18-for-27 for a season-high 240 yards and a touchdown. Reilly had a team-high five receptions for 47 yards and Ryan McManus added four catches for 76 yards.

Dartmouth racked up 421 yards on offense and dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 38 minutes 43 seconds.

Merrimack 62, St. Anselm 26

Merrimack College dominated St. Anselm College for the second time in less than a month in North Andover, Mass., despite a career day from Hawks senior wide receiver Craig Dennis.

Dennis set career highs in catches with 12 and yards with 140 to close out his collegiate career. The Hawks finished their season 2-9, while Merrimack improved to 6-4.

Merrimack scored 42 points between the second and third quarters after scoring 56 over the same two quarters of an 81-35 blowout of the Hawks on Oct. 20.

St. Anselm scored on its opening drive yesterday on a six-yard run by Keith Charles, who set up the touchdown with a 59-yard rush.

Merrimack answered with 27 unanswered points, including two touchdowns off interceptions of freshman quarterback Andrew Murphy early in the second quarter.

Murphy hit junior wide receiver Eric Feehan of Bedford for an eight-yard touchdown with 11:55 left in the second quarter to make it 27-13, but Merrimack answered again with a 53-yard scoring hookup from Joe Clancy to Steven Browne and led 34-13 at the break.

Murphy threw for a pair of touchdowns in the second half, including a 38-yard strike to Ahkeen Williams and a 25-yard score to Justin Bernard. Murphy finished 32-for-61 for 327 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Charles rushed 13 times for 113 yards and Bernard had 10 catches for 74 yards.
