Broken window leads to Milford drug bust

MILFORD - A broken window on a truck parked at Granite Town Plaza caught the attention of police, and now the owner is facing drug charges after officers reported finding heroin in the truck.
Richard F. Cooley, 26, of 599 Mason Road in Milford, was being held on $25,000 cash bail, with a probable cause hearing next week.
According to police, an officer was driving around the parking lot in the Granite Town Plaza on the evening of Nov. 9 when he noticed a 2002 Chevy pickup with the passenger side window smashed out. The officer found broken glass on the outside of the truck and concluded that the damage was done in the parking lot.
The officer found the operator of the truck in the parking lot and began investigating. While looking inside the vehicle, he allegedly found a plastic bag containing what appeared to a small amount of marijuana. The officer then allegedly found another plastic bag containing smaller, individually wrapped bags filled with what is presumed to be heroin.
Cooley was arrested at that point and charged with possession of controlled drugs. But as detectives carried the search over to Cooley's residence on Mason Road, they allegedly discovered a cache of drugs, drug paraphernalia, scales, packaging materials, firearms, and cash.
Cooley was held on $25,000 cash bail and was transported to Valley Street Jail. He was arraigned on six charges at the 9th Circuit Court in Merrimack on Tuesday. The charges include one class A felony count of possession of a controlled narcotic drug with intent to sell, two class B felony counts of possession of a controlled narcotic drug, two misdemeanor A counts of possession of a controlled drug, and one class A misdemeanor count of transportation of a controlled drug.
In court, Cooley's bail was ordered to remain at $25,000 cash and he was transported back to Valley Street Jail in Manchester. Cooley has been scheduled for a probable cause hearing Monday at 9 a.m. at Milford District Court
