Public hearing on Woodmont development delayed again
LONDONDERRY - A public hearing for a formal review of plans for Woodmont Commons, the controversial, mixed-use development proposed for a huge parcel of former orchard land along Interstate 93, has been delayed yet again.
The public hearing, which had been continued from Oct. 10 to this week, will now take place next month, town officials said on Wednesday.
A reason for the most recent delay wasn't immediately given, but it's the latest in what's been a long series of setbacks over the past year.
The Woodmont Commons Planned Unit Development (PUD) master plan was originally dated and submitted in October 2011, but after a preliminary evaluation by town staff, developers requested a continuance. Last month, staff members at Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates, the third-party review consultants hired by the town to offer an outside opinion on the plans for Woodmont Commons, submitted their updated evaluation to the town, which the planning board accepted as complete on Oct. 11.
In a public discussion hosted by the town council earlier this month, residents had many unanswered questions about the project's infrastructure specifics, including the possible need for expanded public safety and the future maintenance of the site's roadways.
The $1 billion development, to be located on 625 acres of former apple orchard land near Route 102 and I-93, calls for several phases of construction, with plans to build 1,300 homes, offices, retail areas, hotels and more. The public hearing will now take place on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Moose Hill Council Chambers at Londonderry Town Hall.
