More than 10,000 registered to vote in Manchester
If past elections give any indication, more than half of the 10,301 newly registered voters will be previous voters who moved from one ward to another and had to go through the registration process to vote, said assistant city clerk Joann Ferruolo.
"The actual checklist will not grow by that number. It takes quite some time to enter (the new registrations)," she said.
Ferruolo said a small percentage of the new registrants are people who were purged in 2011. People who had not voted in the previous four years were dropped from voter rolls, she said.
All totaled, 55,410 people were on the voter checklist at the start of the Nov. 6 election; 49,052 people voted, Ferruolo said.
Ferruolo said city election workers are working to enter all the new registrants into a database maintained by the Secretary of State's Office. Workers are concentrating first on adding people who used a sworn affidavit, rather than an ID, to verify their address or identity...
