Hot pursuit of armed fugitive in hockey mask locks down Keene State campus for 5 hours
KEENE - A Wetmore Street man was arrested Saturday following a search for him that triggered a 4 1/2-hour lockdown of Keene State College campus early Saturday morning.
Justin Robinson, 22, of 9 Wetmore St., was charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of reckless conduct stemming from an incident on the Keene State campus in which he allegedly robbed a student at gunpoint for a college sweatshirt.
Police said Saturday evening, Robinson is being held without bail at the Cheshire County House of Corrections until his Monday morning arraignment in the 8th Circuit Court District Division in Keene.
Keene State College Campus Safety initiated a lockdown mode on campus Saturday morning after a report of man with a handgun fleeing a home at 85 Winchester St. 85 Winchester St. around 1:06 a.m. on foot and onto campus.
The reported altercation inside the home involved a man displaying a black handgun, which police were investigating as a case of criminal threatening, police said Saturday morning.
Shortly after the Winchester Street incident, Robinson allegedly approached a Keene State College student on campus, who was walking with friends between the college student center and dining hall, and "drew the pistol and demanded the student's sweatshirt. Once the suspect retrieved the sweatshirt, he then fled on foot further onto campus," police said.
No one was injured during either incidents, police said.
A Keene police K-9 attempt to track the suspect and search the college campus for him failed. Several police officers were assigned to stay on campus for the remainder of the night. The campus remained in lockdown for until it was lifted at 5:30 a.m.
New Hampshire State Police, Swanzey and Chesterfield Police Departments assisted Keene police Saturday morning.
The case remains under investigation and police are encouraging anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Michael O'Donnell of the Keene police at 603-357-9820.
