BRENTWOOD - A Derry man who allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend with a shotgun faces a variety of assault charges after being indicted by a Rockingham County grand jury, according to indictments.

Joseph Greenquist was indicted on criminal threatening, second-degree assault and nine other charges in Rockingham County Superior Court in connection with allegedly attacking his girlfriend in July.

Greenquist, 24, was arrested by Derry police on the night of July 29 after the woman fled from her Everett Street apartment and reported the assault, according to court records.

Greenquist forced his 21-year-old girlfriend into a bedroom closet and propped a chair against the door to keep her from getting out, according to indictments.

He then started "pulling the trigger and working the action of a shotgun while positioned outside of a closet so that (she) could hear the weapon while trapped inside," prosecutors said. Indictments say that at one point, Greenquist also choked the woman and slapped her.

He allegedly told his girlfriend that "they would both end up murdered if she did not stop acting like a brat," prosecutors said in an indictment.

Greenquist was indicted on two counts of criminal threatening, six counts of simple assault and charges of false imprisonment, second-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Court records say Greenquist was barred from having a weapon because of a 2006 burglary conviction in Strafford County Superior Court. Greenquist is facing three felonies, but the criminal threatening charge carries the longest potential prison term - a three to 20 year sentence - if he is convicted by a jury. Greenquist remains held at the Rockingham County jail. He will be arraigned on the 11 charges later this month in Superior Court.
