Hunter's body found in Swanzey; death not considered suspicious
SWANZEY - The body of a hunter was recovered in Swanzey early Tuesday morning.
It is the fourth death of a hunter this year, but none of the deaths appear to be a hunting accident or suspicious, N.H. Fish and Game Maj. Kevin Jordan said.
Robert Lariviere Jr., 51, of Swanzey, was reported to have gone deer hunting in the vicinity of Talbot Hill Road in Swanzey early Monday morning.
"His family had reported him overdue to the local police," Jordan said.
When local authorities didn't find him, Fisha and Game was called in Tuesday night around 8:15 p.m.
Lt. Craig Morrocco called in New England K-9, which eventually found Lariviere's body around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.
"He was about a quarter of a mile from his vehicle in a densely wooded area," Jordan said.
Swanzey police and fire, the Keene Fire Department, and Upper Valley Wilderness Rescue Team also responded to the search.
Lariviere's death is being investigated by the state Medical Examiner's office and Swanzey police, Jordan said, though his death is not considered to be suspicious and appears to be connected to a medical condition.
"There's no accidental discharge. Everything appears to be normal," Jordan said.
This is the fourth deceased hunter found by Fish and Game this year, Jordan said, but so far, all of the deaths appear to be related to medical conditions.
Jordan said the other deaths are also being investigated, but no final reports have been issued so far this year.
"Definitely all four of these untimely deaths were not due to any kind of a hunting accident or incident. They all appear to be medical conditions," Jordan said. "They are not shootings. They are not accidental falls. All those things have been ruled out. It's certainly medical."
Based on past hunting seasons, four deaths is high, Jordan said.
"This one last night is the fourth one, which is a bit usual. We usually don't have that high a number," he said. "It's kind of odd."
