Retired educators plan holiday luncheon

KEENE - The Cheshire County Retired Educators Association plans a holiday luncheon meeting Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Stonewall Farm.

Hosts Nickie Pregent and Jeannette Gardner will welcome members during the social time from noon to 12:30 p.m., which will be followed by a catered luncheon buffet. The Keene Senior Swingers will entertain the group.

CCREA invites members to donate mittens, gloves or some item of children's outerwear for distribution through Southwest Community Services to Headstart programs.

Members also are encouraged to bring nonperishable food or monetary contributions for The Community Kitchen and Monadnock Food Coalition. Donations may be made to one or both of these groups, but are not required.

Membership is open to all retired teachers, administrators and educational support staff who live in or previously taught in the county. Prospective members or those wishing to attend the luncheon should call membership chairman Ken Whitaker at 827-3702.

Chapin Senior Center offers health screenings

NEW LONDON - Chapin Senior Center, 37 Pleasant St., will host a VNA foot care clinic from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. The cost is $20, and a doctor's order is required for diabetics. For an appointment, the center at 526-6368.

A drop-in blood pressure and glucose screening clinic and Ask a Nurse are scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

The Breakfast Club book discussion group will focus on "Following Atticus" by Tom Ryan when it meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Movie & Pizza Night and Conversations with Lunch won't be held in December.

Bedford Seniors' meeting will be a Christmas party

BEDFORD - Bedford Seniors members will gather for their annual Christmas party Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Manchester Country Club.

Anyone who hasn't signed up, should call Jo at 623-7073. The cost is $22 for a four-course meal offering a choice of salmon in dill sauce or stuffed chicken breast. Entertainment will feature Paul Bordeleau at the piano and Doug Ricard singing.

Members are asked to bring donations of canned vegetables for the Salvation Army.

NARFE Chapter 408's Christmas party Dec. 6

MANCHESTER - The National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 408 will have its annual Christmas party at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at The Chateau on Hanover Street.

The party will include food, raffles and entertainment. Members who have not made reservations are urged to call Roland Remillard at 623-3614.

At the meeting this month, Germano Martins of the state Department of Health and Human Services shared a wealth of information of particular importance to seniors.
