Out of prison after drug conviction, man from Portsmouth likely headed back there
BRENTWOOD - A Portsmouth man arrested for selling cocaine on the Seacoast while on federal release from a 1993 drug case has agreed to plead guilty to drug charges.
Daryl Singleterry, 41, is expected to plead guilty to a felony drug possession charge on Dec. 7 - more than a year after police found $5,000 worth of cocaine on him, according to court papers. His 12-month county jail sentence will run concurrent to whatever punishment he will receive in federal court for being arrested while being on supervised release, according to terms of his plea agreement.
Singleterry, who was arrested last May, had been freed in March 2008 on a 188-month sentence from a federal drug conviction in Maine, according to court records.
Portsmouth police said Singleterry had about $12,000 in cash and more than $5,000 worth of cocaine on him at the time of his arrest. He allegedly sold more than $1,500 worth of cocaine to a confidential informant prior to his arrest, according to prosecutors.
Singleterry's partner, Whitney Jenkins, 23, of Lamprey River Trailer Park in Newmarket, was sentenced earlier this year to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to three counts of sale of a controlled drug. Jenkins sold $1,000 worth of cocaine that allegedly came from Singleterry around last April 12 in Portsmouth.
As part of her plea deal, Jenkins was allowed to apply for work release after she spent 14 days in county jail, according to court records.
She also received a suspended 1- to 3-year prison sentence, and ordered to remain on probation for two years. Jenkins brokered three drug transactions on April 25, 27 and 28 with a confidential informant working with Portsmouth police, indictments say.
After his plea hearing in Rockingham County Superior, Singleterry will be returned to federal court to learn what his punishment will be for his latest arrest.
