Berlin begins looking for replacement city manager
The mayor and council won't be going through the hiring process alone, but will have the assistance of Primex, the New Hampshire Public Risk Management Exchange.
The city will advertise the position starting on Jan. 4, 2013, according to MacQueen, with resumes from applicants due Feb. 1. The salary range will be $75,000 to $105,000.
The goal is to have a new city manager on board Aug. 1.
Mayor Paul Grenier, who is also a Coos County commissioner, said the county used Primex to fill two positions.
Carl Weber of Primex said the company does not participate in the interview process, but assists with structuring it and keeping it on track.
"Our assistance is simply designed to augment their search by helping them reach consensus on what they are looking for in the city's next manager," Weber said Wednesday. "We do not screen or comment on applicants, nor do we run their process. However, we do provide resources and facilitate discussion to help them conduct their search. Typical resources include forms, sample questions, and suggested schedule for the process."
MacQueen gave the council one year's notice that he would be stepping down. The city contracts through Municipal Resources Inc. of Meredith for his services. MacQueen has held city manager positions with MRI since 1995. Prior to that was the Keene city manager for 17 years. He has been with Berlin since spring 2002.
