44 animals found new homes during Animal Rescue League Black Friday sale
BEDFORD - While some hit malls and big box stores on Black Friday, animal lovers had an opportunity to pick up a pet at the Animal Rescue League's second annual Black Friday sale.
Forty-four animals of the 90 available found new homes at Friday's sale, which began at 6 a.m., and an additional 16 animals were sold Saturday and Sunday.
A total of 52 cats, 7 dogs and one small animal left the building, clearing space for new surrenders.
"Our Black Friday adoption promotion was a huge success," said Lindsay Hamrick, chief operating officer. "I've never seen the shelter this empty before. The community really responded to our need to get these animals into homes for the holiday season."
The winner of ARL's raffle prize was drawn on Black Friday. Angela Martin of Merrimack, who purchased the ticket on a whim when she brought her son in to volunteer, was the winner of the $5,000 raffle prize.
Other holiday-themed fundraisers are ongoing.
Christmas tree sales will continue through December, with sizes ranging from tabletop to 9-plus feet.
On Saturday, Woo Me Photography will be on site taking pictures of dogs and cats with Santa Claus. Sitting fee and jpeg image are $20, and appointments are recommended by calling 472-5714 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Copies of the ARL 2013 Cash Calendar are still available for sale, featuring photos of adopted rescue animals. The calendar includes 15 chances to win $100 or $250 in raffle drawings throughout the year.
