Nashua team claims FIRST LEGO championship
MANCHESTER - The "Wisdom Hunters" team from Nashua won the top Champion's Award at the New Hampshire FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament on Saturday.
Fifty teams from New Hampshire and Vermont presented their creative solutions to this year's challenge, "Senior Solutions," during the all-day, high-energy tournament held at Manchester Central High School.
In addition to building a robot, teams had to research and present ideas to counter the effects of aging.
The "NXTreme" team from Mont Vernon won second place in the Champion's Award and "Team 4-1-1" from Concord took third place.
"HUES Lightning," a team from Hollis, took first place in the Robot Performance Awards, given for the highest overall score in three timed rounds. The "Out of This World" team from Concord won second place.
The robots, designed and built by student teams over the past eight weeks, were required to complete up to 14 missions associated with senior life and challenges.
FIRST LEGO League, part of the FIRST program, was created to foster interest in science and technology among students ages 9 to 14.
Mentored by adult professionals, student teams competed in a series of regional events to qualify for Saturday's tournament, the 11th annual event.
