Green to step down as Concord Hospital president

CONCORD - Michael B. Green will be stepping down as president and CEO of Concord Hospital at the end of 2013, according to the hospital board of trustees.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to lead such an incredible organization for the past 20 years," said Green. "While I have no definitive plans, I look forward to staying involved in health care leadership in a role that is less demanding than my current position."

In his two decades of leadership at Concord Hospital and Capital Region Health Care, Green has been "a visionary and pragmatic community health leader," according to a statement issued by the trustees. "His efforts have resulted in access to medical care for Concord area residents that is virtually unsurpassed in New Hampshire."

Green led the organization through its evolution from a community hospital to a regional health care center, adding services like cancer care and cardiac surgery, along with specialities in urology, breast care and orthopedics to the health care organization.

The hospital trustees pointed out that Concord Hospital provides more financial assistance than any other hospital of similar size in New Hampshire, and cited Green's "commitment to the vital role of the hospital in the community and its charitable mission."

"Michael Green's vision and leadership have been the driving force behind Concord Hospital's achievements and stability, which benefit us all," said hospital board chair Dr. Thomas Akey. The board will conduct a nationwide search in the next 12 months to find a new hospital president and CEO.
