PLAISTOW - The 3-year-old boy at the center of a high-profile child abuse case who was allegedly beaten and burned is now out of the hospital, authorities said.

James Nicholson has been released from Children's Hospital at Dartmouth in Lebanon, but authorities aren't disclosing his whereabouts.

The young boy has been in the custody of the state's Division of Children, Youth and Families ever since his mother, Jessica Linscott, 23, and her boyfriend, Roland Dow, 27, fled after learning that police planned to arrest them.

They were nabbed last week after a two-week manhunt that led authorities to Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., where U.S. Marshals caught up with the fugitive couple after they watched a parade.

Dow is accused of striking the boy in the head last month with such force that he allegedly caused him to suffer a traumatic brain injury, which led to seizures and other problems. He is also accused of burning the boy's wrist and fingers and failing to seek medical help.

Linscott is also accused of failing to seek medical care for her son when he suffered seizures, authorities said.

The young boy's grandmother, Helen Nicholson, has said he underwent two brain surgeries while hospitalized. He was left nearly blinded by the head injury, police said, but his vision has returned.

Linscott told hospital workers that her son caused the injuries to himself, but doctors told prosecutors that the injuries do not appear to be self-inflicted.

Dow's attorney, Lawrence Vogelman, has also said his client denies the charges and medical evidence will show that he's not guilty.

Linscott is being held on $100,000 cash bail at the Rockingham County Jail. Dow is jailed on $500,000 cash bail.

Meanwhile, James has seen an outpouring of support from the community and beyond in the days and weeks since he was first hospitalized on Nov. 14 at Exeter Hospital.

Many have dropped off presents for the child at the Plaistow Police Department and police have received calls from people wanting to help from as far away as Florida.
