No drugs found during search of Farmington schools
FARMINGTON - As students practiced lockdown drills, four police dog teams searched two schools Friday as part of the community's zero tolerance policy regarding drugs - and happily came up empty.
Police dog teams from Rochester, Portsmouth and Wells, Maine - in connection with the Working Dog Foundation - visited Farmington High School in the morning, and Middleton Police Chief Randy Sobel and police dog Raven searched grades seven and eight at Henry Wilson Memorial School.
No illegal drugs were located in either school, according to police.
Police said they work with the Farmington School District, which also educates Middleton students, to ensure the schools foster a positive learning environment that is safe and free of drugs.
Any student who is caught possessing, using or selling drugs on school property must go before the school board and could face criminal charges, according to police.
"Taking this type action is the only way to ensure that students receive a clear and consistent message about the consequences of this type of inappropriate behavior," according to a police news release.
