Born in 12th hour, he's 12 on 12th in '12
His parents didn't think too much about this day when he was born 12 years ago on Dec. 12, 2000.
It wasn't until last year's birthday that his mom, Sharon, began looking ahead and realized that his 12th birthday would arrive on 12/12/12.
It's the perfect day to celebrate for a boy who was also born in the 12th hour - 12:50 p.m. to be exact.
Aaron never thought of 12 as his lucky number before this day arrived.
"I do now," he said as he took a break from his fifth-grade classes at Ellis School to talk about the number 12.
The Fremont boy isn't the only New Hampshire-born kid celebrating 12th birthdays today.
According to the state's Division of Vital Records Administration, 56 babies were born in New Hampshire hospitals on Dec. 12, 2000.
"There are a lot of 12s," Aaron's mother said.
After today, it'll take 88 years before all the numbers in the day, month, and year are the same, 01/01/01. Dates like 07/07/07, 10/10/10 and 11/11/11 are long gone now.
So with his big day here, how does Aaron plan to celebrate? Surprisingly, he's decided not to invite 12 friends over to eat up a dozen birthday cupcakes.
"I just want to have my family," he said.
That includes his parents and older sisters, Nicole Sherborne, Kelley Langdon, and Jill Rogers. His older brother Derek lives in Texas and won't be able to make it.
Aaron is an easy kid to please and never asks for much. He told his parents that he wants shepherd's pie for his birthday dinner with chocolate cake for dessert.
"I'm not a greedy kid," he said.
Hard to believe he didn't want ambrosia salad for dessert. After all, 12/12/12 is National Ambrosia Day.
Aaron couldn't think of anything he'd like for a birthday gift to mark the milestone. He said he's not into iPods and stuff like that, but he has taken an interest in the piano and hopes his parents can find him a local piano teacher so he can take lessons.
Aaron doesn't know it yet, but his parents have planned a birthday bash during the week of Christmas.
"Having a birthday land on a date like this is very unusual, so his mother and I set out a couple of weeks ago planning a very special day for our very special boy, complete with the numeral 12," said his father, Richard.
Aaron has talked a little bit about his birthday with his friends. "They're glad and a little jealous, maybe," he said. A girl in his class shares the same birthday, but she's only turning 11 this year, he said.
While the number 12 is a big one for Aaron, he has no plans to pick that number when he's old enough to play the lottery.
"My dad says it's just a waste of money," he said.
Twelve-year-olds aren't the only ones celebrating today. Some couples have also chosen to tie the knot, but New Hampshire wedding planners say 12/12/12 is not as popular as other dates in recent years.
"We've had a few, but it's not as big as your 07/07/07," said Renee Fortin of Modern Bride and Formal Shop in Bedford.
Since we're talking numbers, it's important to note that at age 12, Aaron is also an uncle to 10-month-old Sienna Rogers and 8-month-old Nolan Langdon. He'll be an uncle again in February. The due date is Feb. 4, but with any luck, the baby will arrive on Feb. 12 at 12:12 p.m.
Time will tell, and with any luck, the world won't end on 12/22/12.
