Franklin police approve switching to another union
FRANKLIN - The city's police have voted to switch unions.
At a secret-ballot election last month, department members voted to leave Teamsters Local 633 and join the New England Police Benevolent Association.
NEPBA Director of Communications Christopher Sicuranza said the move, which took effect Nov. 27, reflected a preference for a union that only deals with police and police staff.
"They liked that we are law enforcement-exclusive," he said.
Franklin police officers and employees, whose Teamster contract expired in June, would not comment on the change.
Sicuranza said the union will soon be negotiating a new contract for employees of the police department.
