H.S. Sports Roundup: Memorial skaters ice South

A seven-goal explosion in the second period gave the host Memorial boys' hockey team a win as the Crusaders beat Nashua South, 12-1, in its first outing of the season Wednesday at the JFK Arena.

The Crusaders got multiple point games from Kyle Brossard (goal, assist), Jacob Boylan (goal, assist), Ethan Pollock (two goals), Brady Sufat (three assists), Matt Fitzgerald (goal, assist), Colin Williamson (goal, assist), Bryan Syrene (two goals, assist) and Nick Burgess (two goals). Memorial goalie Joshua Jacon made eight saves.

Devin Mederios-Brackett scored the lone goal for the Purple Panthers.

Bedford 6, Somersworth-Coe-Brown 3: At Rochester, the Bulldogs (1-0) scored the first two goals and never looked back against the Toppers (0-1). Brian Collins scored a pair of goals for Bedford, while Colby Siering scored twice for Somersworth. Chris Viola, Kurt Mitchell, Cullen Willey and Ben Philbrook also scored for Bedford, which peppered 63 shots on SCB goalie Peter Robertson.

Concord 3, Nashua North 2: At Nashua, Brayden Smith's second goal broke a 2-2 tie with 3:31 to play in the Division I opener for each team. Concord, which trailed 2-1 early in the third, also received a third-period goal from Harrison Murphy. John Searles and Jake Latham scored for Nashua North.

Bishop Guertin 1, Salem 0: At Salem, senior Chris Lovell scored the first goal of the season for the Cardinals - and it was a big one. Lovell's second-period tally stood up for the game winner as BG defeated host Salem. Goalie Nick Phair made 21 saves for the shutout. Salem goalie Griffin Scanlon had an outstanding night, making 17 saves.

Londonderry 5, Exeter 1: At Exeter, the Lancers (1-0) broke open a tight game with three goals in the third period to pull away from the Blue Hawks (0-1). Mark Leach, Lucas Poulin and John Gomes scored in a 90 second span to propel Londonderry. Goalie Joe McGarth preserved the win with 21 saves.

Kennett 7, ConVal 1: At Conway, the host Eagles started the season with a win thanks to two goals and two assists from Brad Canaveri. Connor Todd (goal, three assists) and Nick Massa (two goals) chipped in as well.

Bow 5, Pembroke-Campbell 1: At Hooksett, Derek Tillotson and Chris Fournier each scored a pair of goals as the Falcons (1-0) built a five-goal lead against the Spartans (0-1). Jonathan Donaghey tallied Pembroke's lone goal.

Girls' basketball

Derryfield 49, Portsmouth Christian 23: At Manchester, junior point guard Hannah Comeau scored a game-high 22 points as the Cougars (2-3) rebounded from Tuesday's loss to Wilton-Lyndeborough with a strong effort against the Eagles (1-3). Rachel Larivee added 10 points for Derryfield, while Kim Gendron led Portsmouth Christian with 9.
