BJ Cardarelli and Rodney Sanders each finished with 18 points as Southern New Hampshire University defeated New York Institute of Technology 74-56 in non-conference men's basketball Saturday at the SNHU Fieldhouse in Manchester.

The Penmen improved to 6-3 on the season, while the Bears now stand at 6-4.

For Cardarelli, it marked a season-high as he drained four of his five three-point attempts and finished 5-for-8 from the field overall, while Sanders was 7-for-12 and also grabbed five rebounds.

Mike Stys of Hooksett and Aleksandar Dobrovic each added 10 points, while CJ Marriro dished out six assists.

Azel Prather, Jr. was the lone NYIT player in double figures as he totaled 12 points. Kayvon Roberts finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.

Southern New Hampshire, which never trailed, opened up an 11-0 lead 2:43 into the game following a conventional three-point play by Dobrovic. NYIT countered with nine straight to pull within 11-9 at the 15:47 mark. The Penmen eventually staged a 19-2 run capped by a Kostas Mantalvanos layup with 1:49 left before intermission to open a 21-point cushion, 41-20.

Arizona State 61, Dartmouth 42: At Tempe, Ariz., the Sun Devils snapped an early-game tie with a 14-0 burst and cruised past the Big Green. Gabas Maldunas and John Golden were the lone Dartmouth players in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Dartmouth slipped to 2-7. ASU is 9-2.

Lyndon State 69, Plymouth State 68: At Lyndonville, Vt., Kevin Eisenberg of Moultonborough and Alex Burt of Dover scored 18 and 15 points apiece for the Panthers, but Jose Fortunato's pair of free throws with 14 seconds left in regulation provided Lyndon State with its margin of victory. Plymouth's Petey Skevas (14 points) sank a three-point field goal with two seconds left to account for the final score.

Daniel Webster 76, New England College 66: At Henniker, the Eagles placed four of their five starting players in double figures and improved to 4-5. John Hickson led DWC with 19 points, Dave Schindewolf netted 15, Daris Cosby scored 14 and David Feinstein tallied 12. The Pilgrims, who are yet to win, were paced by Javon Williams and Abdirahman Mohamed who finished with 15 and 13 points respectively.

Women's basketball

Southern New Hampshire 66, Post 57: At Waterbury, Conn., Sloane Sorrell and Michelle DeRoma banked in 21 and 19 points respectively to snap the Eagles four-game win streak and push the Penmen to 5-4 on the season. Sorrell, who is sixth on the SNHU career scoring list with 1,207 points, registered her sixth double-double of the season with12 rebounds.

Florida International 61, Dartmouth 57: At Miami, Fla., Dartmouth squandered a seven-point, 32-25 halftime lead and fell to 1-8. Abbey Schmidt scored 13 points while Kamala Thompson and Milica Toskovic tallied 11 each for the Big Green.

Lyndon State 61, Plymouth State 50: At Lyndonville, Vt., Bry Bennett of Lancaster and Krystin Corliss of Loudon netted 12 points apiece for the Panthers who dropped to 1-7.

Men's hockey

Plymouth State 5, Southern New Hampshire 2: At Plymouth, the Panthers won their seventh straight game as Kyle Greco, Mike Freitag, Zach Fox of Sandown, Josh Woody and Kyle Weiland provided the offense. Brian Troy scored both Penmen goals. PSU is 8-1, and SNHU is 2-7-2.
