Londonderry High School band to perform in Inaugural parade

LONDONDERRY — Londonderry High School's Marching Lancers are going to Washington for the second time.

On Tuesday afternoon, the well-traveled marching band was selected to represent the Granite State at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural parade. The parade will take place Jan. 21.

Next month will mark the band's second time performing before President Obama; the Lancers also participated in the 2009 Inaugural Parade.

Along with performing in Washington, the Lancers have also toured Beijing, China, represented New Hampshire in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade four times and travel annually to New York City to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Music director Andy Soucy said the honor is the perfect opportunity to “showcase the value of music education in our state as we represent its many fine high school programs.”
“We're very proud to be able to represent New Hampshire,” he added.

This past October, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., endorsed the local marching band in a letter sent to the Presidential Inaugural Committee. “The Londonderry High School Marching Lancer Band has performed across the globe and has served as terrific ambassadors for New Hampshire,” Shaheen said. “I look forward to welcoming them back to Washington and am confident that they will bring the spirit of the Granite State to our nation's capital.”
