Fire commissioners quiet about status of Tilton fire chief
TILTON - Fire commissioners for the Tilton-Northfield Fire and EMS Department chose to withhold comment Tuesday about an issue raised about the future of Brad Ober as the department's fire chief.
Ober, who began serving the town in 2010, lives in Ashland and had agreed to move to a home within the Tilton-Northfield district by Jan. 2, 2013, fire commission officials said.
He has not yet moved to the district, and fire commission members have been discussing their options, said Fire Commissioner Patrick Clark. It is hoped, he said, that the issue is resolved by Jan. 2.
Late Tuesday, Clark said the fire commissioners and town officials in Tilton and Northfield had just been advised not to discuss the matter publicly because it involves personnel.
"The chief is still the chief," Clark said.
Early in the day Tuesday, Pat Consentino, chair of the Tilton board of selectmen, expressed anger that Ober's position was in question. Later in the day, she could not be reached for comment.
Ober succeeded current Gilford Fire Chief Steve Carrier, having been fire chief in Ashland. He did not return phone calls Tuesday.
