Brown, Day named BC grid coordinators

Two coaches with strong ties to the Granite State, Don Brown and Ryan Day, were named defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator on Wednesday by Boston College head football coach Steve Addazio.

Brown coached at Plymouth State College from 1993-95, compiling an 25-6 record, including consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III football tournament.

He joins the Eagles after spending each of the last two seasons as defensive coordinator at Connecticut where he spearheaded a defense that led the Big East and ranked 10th in the nation allowing 309.9 yards per game this fall.

"We're very excited to have Don Brown joining our Boston College family," Addazio said. "Don is a New England guy who has tremendous ties and relationships in the Northeast to go along with a great coaching resume. He's been a head coach at Northeastern. He's been a head coach at Plymouth State. He's been a head coach at the University of Massachusetts. He's had coordinator experience at Maryland in the ACC and comes to us having most recently served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Connecticut. He has tremendous character and is a great family man who is a perfect fit here at Boston College."

Day, who has seven years of previous experience as a coach at Boston College, returns to the Heights for his first season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Manchester, N.H., native served as the wide receivers coach for the Eagles (2007-11) and as an offensive graduate assistant (2003-04). Day spent the 2012 season at Temple as the Owls' offensive coordinator under Addazio.

"Ryan is one of the bright, young minds in college football," Addazio said. "He's going to coach the quarterbacks and be the offensive coordinator. He's so excited to be back and part of the Boston College family. This is home for him. He knows Boston College and he is thrilled to back."

"He (Ryan Day) played for me and I coached with him," Oregon head coach Chip Kelly said Wednesday after the Ducks practice. "He was a great kid and one of the bright minds as well as one of the best players I have ever coached. I think he is one of the best young coaches in the country and it was just a matter of time before he was running the show, offensively, somewhere."

Day is a 2002 graduate of UNH with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a 2004 graduate of Boston College with a master's degree in administrative studies.
