MILFORD - A beating and robbery in the Shaw's Supermarket parking lot on Nashua Street has led to the arrest of two men charged with the crime and the victim.

On Dec. 4 around 4:20 p.m., according to Capt. Chris Nervik of the Milford Police Department, police received an anonymous report of a fight and possible stabbing in a black Lincoln MKX in the parking lot.

About the same time, police received a report of a suspicious man in the area of Foster Road, going door to door asking for water. Officers located the man who was determined to be Kenneth Martel of Milford.

Martel told police that he has just been robbed, beaten and kicked out of a vehicle on Foster Road, a few miles from Shaw's. While speaking with Martel, officers found that Martel was in possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle. He was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled drug and reckless conduct, both Class B felonies.

He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of breach of bail conditions. Martel is being held on $10,000 cash/surety bail and is being held at Valley Street Jail.

After Martel's arrest, detectives began to investigate the robbery and were able to identify two suspects and warrants were issued for Jason Smolinsky, 30, of 10 Tricnit Road, New Ipswich, and Jeffery Pollock, 43, of 6 Orange St. in Milford.

Police arrested Smolinsky and Pollock on Wednesday, and both were arraigned Thursday at the 9th Circuit Court in Milford. Smolinsky has been charged with armed robbery, a Class A felony, criminal threatening and being a convicted felon in possession of a deadly weapon, both Class B felonies. Smolinsky is being held at Valley Street Jail on $75,000 cash/surety bail.

Pollock is charged with one Class A felony count of armed robbery and is being held at Valley Street Jail on $50,000 cash/surety bail.

Both Pollock and Smolinsky are due back in court on Jan. 2 at 9 a.m. for a probable cause hearing.
