NHIAA Roundup: Bedford girls beat Merrimack; Central, Trinity boys win
Rachel Collins and Haley Driscoll each netted 10 points to help the Bedford High School girls basketball team raise its Division I record to 3-1 with a 53-14 triumph over visiting Merrimack on Thursday night.
Bedford's Gabby Hunter collected 16 rebounds, 10 of which came off the offensive glass. McKenzie Brown contributed six points and seven rebounds. The Tomahawks had a cold shooting night with Kate Cole scoring eight points, including one 3-pointer.
Bow 50, Winnisquam 26: At Tilton, The Falcons took charge early and improved to 6-1. Winnisquam dropped to 3-3 with Angie Roy netting 10 points.
Milford 61, Manchester West 6: At Manchester, Dina Pitsas scored 23 points to help the Spartans improve their Division II record to 3-1. Anna Brouillet led West (0-4) with four.
Manchester Memorial 63, Timberlane 34: At Manchester, senior guard Danielle Fletcher and sophomore center McKenah Grisson each scored a game-high 17 points to help Memorial improve its Division I record to 2-3. The Crusaders led 50-22 after three quarters. Masha Lange scored 16 and Dakotah Vonderason added 12 for the Owls (2-2).
Salem 65, Trinity 44: At Manchester, Emily Hickey drained a trio of 3-pointers and scored 19 points while teammates Amanda Bickford (13) and Alex Sirmaian (11) contributed double digit scoring efforts as the Blue Devils picked up a road win. Jillian Gilman led Trinity scorers with nine points. Both teams own 2-3 records.
Manchester Central 61, Dover 53: At Manchester, junior Collin Duffley's first two varsity baskets were big ones as he hit back-to-back 3-pointers to erase a five-point Dover lead and put the Little Green ahead for good in the third quarter. With all-state forward Troy Pelletier playing with the flu, Brett Hanson (18 points), Dawson Dickson (15) and Tyler Kelly (13) picked up the scoring slack.
Dover led 31-29 at halftime thanks in part to the scoring of Mike Wons (20) and Billy Carroll (16). Central, which improved its Division I record to 3-0, made each of its 10 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped Dover to 1-2.
Trinity 66, Salem 46: At Salem, Mabor Gabriel scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked two shots helping the Pioneers improve to 3-0 with a convincing road win. Trinity swished 11-of-12 free throws and Jon Cullity nailed two treys while Pat Keefe scored eight points on four jumpers. John Hartman scored 15 points but the Blue Devils dropped to 0-3.
Bishop Guertin 48, Exeter 47: Jeff Lund scored a game-high 18 points as Bishop Guertin of Nashua remained unbeaten after three Division I games. Kyle Gavin added 12 for the Cardinals, who trailed by two at halftime. Zach Holler led Exeter (0-3) with 13.
Windham 57, Milford 40: At Windham, Andrew Lowman led all scorers with 14 points while Spartans teammate David Carbonello tallied nine. Winham improved to 1-1. Milford fell to 1-2.
Spaulding 67, Londonderry 47: At Rochester: The Lancers had a cold night shooting 3-pointers, hitting just 5 of 21 attempts while dropping to 1-2 on the season against Spaulding, undefeated through two games. Taylor Simpson had the long-distance hot hand, sinking 3-of-5 treys and leading Londonderry scorers with 13 points.
Derryfield 52, Concord Christian 35: Tyler Zorn scored all of his team-high 15 points on 3-pointers as Derryfield of Manchester raised its Division IV record to 4-0. Derryfield, which did not attempt a free throw in the game, had a 22-0 edge in the second quarter.
Nick Peters tossed in 16 for Concord Christian, which slipped to 2-3.
