PETERBOROUGH - Three teenagers accused of a Christmas Eve home invasion on Lounsbury Lane that included a brutal assault using the butt of a shotgun were arraigned on felony burglary charges in court Wednesday morning.

Peterborough police recovered three rifles from the South Bennington home where the teens were arrested Monday.

Family and friends of the accused wept audibly in the courtroom at the 8th Circuit Court, Jaffrey District Division, during the proceeding.

Arraigned first, 17-year-old Austin Cadorette began weeping before Judge L. Phillips Runyon after Peterborough Police prosecutor Vint Boggis asked Runyon to keep his bail at $50,000 cash.

“He's a danger to society. The nature of this crime was very violent, very disturbing, so much so that there is actually an enhanced penalty for up to 20 years for this crime. So that's why I ask that bail stay at $50,000 cash,” Boggis said.

The three suspects - Dylan Cadorette, 17, of Bennington; Austin Cadorette, 17 of Antrim; and Isaac Lyons, 17, also of Antrim - are accused of forcing their way into a basement-level bedroom at 39 Lounsbury Lane at 4:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve. One of the intruders brandished a shotgun.

A 17-year-old male who was sleeping in the room confronted the intruders but was tackled and hit over the head with the butt of the shotgun several times. After the victim referred to the intruders by name, they fled the home, police said in a press release Christmas Eve.

According to the arrest affidavit written by Boggis, who is also a Peterborough police sergeant, he responded to the Lounsbury Lane home about 4:30 a.m. Monday. He found a door smashed, as well as glass and debris strewn about.

The victim was bleeding "profusely from lacerations to his head,” Boggis said. The victim told Boggis he had been sleeping when he woke to find three people with T-shirts wrapped around their heads, one holding a rifle of some type. The three repeatedly demanded money.

"One person then attempted to tackle him and hit him while one of the others smashed him repeatedly in the head with the barrel of the gun,” Boggis wrote.

The victim identified the three home invaders by their eyes, what he could see of their faces, the sound of their voices and their sizes.

When police from several agencies arrested the three defendants, they had blood on their clothes, Boggis wrote. Peterborough police recovered three rifles.

Police said Monday the victim was attacked after he confronted the intruders.
The victim was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Two hours after the home invasion, police from Peterborough, Bennington, Greenfield, Antrim, and Hancock went to a South Bennington residence where they arrested the three 17-year-olds. All three have been charged with felony burglary for entering the home with the intent to assault.

Dylan Cadorette's charge includes he intended “an assault with a firearm.” Lyons is additionally charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

Runyon set a Monday court date for their probable cause hearings and kept each of their bails the same, $50,000 cash.

As the three teens were being led out of the courtroom to be returned to the Hillsborough County House of Corrections in Manchester, a woman from the gallery said, “I love you” to which Lyons turned to her and replied, “I love you.”
