MANCHESTER - Investigators were sorting out details Friday in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man who was found wounded behind the wheel of a sport-utility vehicle after a colliding with another vehicle.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's office confirmed Friday that Daniel Langlois died Thursday night at Elliot Hospital. He had been shot once in the head around 3 a.m. Thursday near the corner of Nashua and Jane streets, where he had collided with a parked car.

Neighbors who heard the crash told police they saw at least two people get in a third vehicle that fled the scene before officers arrived. Some also reported they believed they heard gunshots.

"All the circumstances are still under investigation," said Jeffrey Strelzin, senior assistant attorney general for the homicide unit.

Strelzin would not comment on witness reports that a man who was a passenger in the SUV was at the scene as officers cordoned off the area and was overheard saying his friend had been shot.

Langlois was behind the wheel when the Toyota SUV collided with a small sedan that was parked on the street, leaving both vehicles back-to-back in the middle of Jane Street. Strelzin said it was not clear yet whether Langlois was wounded before or after the collision.

"We can't tell the exact timing," Strelzin said Friday afternoon. "As far as exactly where, we just don't have those details."

Strelzin said investigators believe an earlier incident at another location led to the shooting at the intersection just south of Bridge Street, but would not elaborate. He also declined comment when asked whether Langlois was being chased when the shooting occurred. Officers initially thought it was a hit-and-run accident before finding Langlois and speaking to neighbors.

Police on Thursday were reviewing surveillance video Thursday that showed the entrance of a club on Auburn Street, but would not disclose whether that was where investigators believed the incident that led to the shooting began.

"The Manchester Police Department is running that down," he said.

Strelzin said no further details would be released Friday because the investigation was ongoing.

Relatives said Langlois, who lived in Manchester, had a 3-year-old daughter and another child on the way.
